Recent travels // Lifestyle post
I am currently sitting here in our little living room in Nashville with a mug of hot tea, a blanket, and my notebook. I'm reflecting on Andrew and I's recent trip to North Carolina, West Virginia, and Maryland. It was a wonderful trip and definitely much needed after a whirlwind of a summer.
We planned our trip a few months back - we hadn't been to my childhood home since this past Christmas, so I was looking forward to visiting my parents and exploring all of my favorite places once again. When we left, we went to North Carolina first to celebrate our nephew's first birthday! He is crawling so fast and I can tell he is anxious to get on his feet and run! My sister-in-law planned the most exquisite party, full of woodland animals and themed foods. I'll post a few photos below so you can see.
Next, we traveled to West Virginia, where I photographed in-home family portraits. It was so fun to visit with them - I had taken portraits of them about a year ago, so it was nice to catch up. Andrew and I got in the car again bright and early the next day and drove a few more hours to my parents' home in Maryland. I'm pretty sure I am one of the few who can say they grew up in the same home and never once moved growing up.
We spent the week exploring, shopping, going to D.C. for a day-trip, and relaxing. It was definitely a great time visiting my parents and getting to spend time with them. I've posted some photos of some of my favorite places in the backyard and around the house.
It was definitely bittersweet heading back to WV to stay the night before traveling back to Nashville. But, I was greeted with a surprise of spending the last day of our trip going hiking in Canaan Valley - one of my other very favorite places to visit. We spent the day in Seneca Rocks, hiked out to Lindy Point, and then traveled to Blackwater Falls for a picnic dinner and another hike to see the falls! It was quite a full last day of our trip, but a wonderful way to end it.
Now, I'm back in Nashville, getting back into the routines of work and daily chores, but am looking forward to going through all of my photos and slowing down for the day. I'd like to hear about your recent travels and how you've been spending your autumn so far - feel free to comment or email.
Baby Noah's first birthday - his cake was so beautiful!
One of my favorites from the family session I did in West Virginia.
I painted this mural on my bedroom wall - I love the cover of one of the Gregory and the Hawk's albums and I felt it resembled me, so I painted it on my wall a long time ago.
